Sixty minutes

What the hour looks like.

Every Friday follows the same shape, so a player always knows what is coming and can measure the week.

  1. Minutes 0–10 · Activation

Ball at the feet from the first minute: fast footwork patterns, both feet, coach counting reps. No laps.

  2. Minutes 10–35 · The technique of the week

One theme per week (first touch, turns, 1v1, passing lines, striking), broken down, corrected, repeated until it is automatic.

  3. Minutes 35–55 · Under pressure

The same technique in small spaces with defenders, decisions and speed. This is where it starts to look like Saturday.

  4. Minutes 55–60 · Compete and go

A short competition round, a word from the coach on what to work on at home, and out the gate on time.

What the hour is

Technically astute players, made on purpose.

Core IDP is committed to raising the level of technical ability, in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment.

Attention to detail

Technique at speed

First touch, dribbling, passing, turning and shooting with both feet, at a tempo that transfers to Saturday.

Good habits

Repetition that sticks

The same movement done well hundreds of times, with feedback each time, until it is the player's default.

Positive mentality

Confidence in tight spaces

Drills that look like the game: pressure, small spaces, quick decisions, creativity rewarded.

Athletic sharpness

Speed, agility, quickness

Explosive movement, change of direction and reactions, built into the hour rather than bolted on.

Academy questions

Who coaches my player's group?
Matty and Marcus run Friday nights. With current numbers everyone trains on one grid: the older players at one end, the younger at the other, and both coaches watch both. As numbers grow the groups split by age and ability.
My player is seven and only plays rec. Is it too much?
No. The youngest group starts at seven and is built around fundamentals at a pace that fits. If a player is not ready, the coach tells you after the first night and points you to the Technical Development Center block instead.
We live in Greensboro or Winston-Salem. Is it worth the drive?
Phillips Park is fifteen minutes from downtown Greensboro and about thirty from Winston-Salem, off I-74. Friday at 5:30 is after the school run and before the weekend, and Finishing follows at 6:30 so one trip covers both. If a Saturday morning would suit you better, say so on the form below; it is on the list.
Is it really only Fridays?
Right now, yes: one hour every Friday at 5:30, with Finishing Masterclass straight after at 6:30. A Saturday-morning session and a couple of later weeknight sessions are planned once enough families ask for them; the form at the bottom of this page is where you ask.
Does my player have to be in a club?
No. Players from any club, and players who are not in a club, train together. Once the fall season starts we work around your team's practice schedule.
How do we register?
Registration runs through PlayMetrics. If you are a first-time user it asks you to create a player profile before you register; it takes a few minutes.
What happens on holidays?
Some dates move to avoid holidays. You still get four sessions in the month.
